Approximately one-half of the 1.6 million veterans from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars are currently
seeking compensation for service related injuries and disabilities.  Nearly 500,000 of these veterans
received treatment in a VA hospital or medical facility for service related mental impairments.  
Currently, nearly 600,000 physical and/or mental VA disability claims are backlogged for many months.
